WHAT A TYPICAL ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT IS LIKE

Prior to the first consultation, you'll be asked to complete health history. The acupuncture starts a visit by asking you about your health concerns, diet, sleep, anxiety level, along with other lifestyle habits. You could be asked about your feelings, hunger, food dislikes and likes, and response to fluctuations in temperature and seasons.

Throughout your visit, the acupuncture will examine your appearance with care noting your complexion, voice, and tongue colour and coat. She or he will take your pulse in 3 points on each wrist, noting strength, quality and rhythm. In medication, tongue and pulse are considered to reflect the health of organ systems and meridians.

Usually, acupuncture may utilize six to 15 needles per treatment. The needles are left for 10 to 20 minutes. The acupuncture might twist the needles for added effect.

Your acupuncture might use additional techniques throughout your session such as.

Moxibustion In addition known as moxa, moxibustion includes the use of rods held close to the acupuncture needles to heat and stimulate the acupuncture points.

Cupping Therapy

Even though the period of the acupuncture session may vary from a few minutes to over an hour, the normal treatment duration is from 20 to thirty minutes. The first visit could take up to 60 minutes.

Following the treatment, some people feel relaxed, while others feel energetic. If you experience any unusual symptoms, you should consult your doctor.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

You might feel a small bite, pinch, ache, or some pain as the acupuncture needle is being added. Some best acupuncturists manipulate the acupuncture needle once it's been set within the body, by twirling or rotating the needle, moving it down and up, or with a machine with a tiny electrical pulse or present. If you experience pain, numbness, or discomfort tingling, deep sensation, or ache needed in attaining the therapeutic effect  If you experience pain, numbness, or discomfort during the treatment, you should notify your acupuncturist instantly.

Side Effects of Acupuncture

As with any treatment, acupuncture does pose some hazards, the most common being pain and bleeding from the insertion of acupuncture needles. Other adverse effects can include skin rashes, bruising, pain, allergic reactions, bleeding, nausea, fainting, dizziness or infections.

To be able to cut the possibility of serious adverse consequences, acupuncture should be administered by an authorized and properly trained practitioner with disposable needles.

Based on a report published in Scientific Reports, acupuncture may cause serious adverse consequences, like infections, nerve, and blood vessel damage, complications due to breakage of the needle or remaining needle pieces, pierced organs, nerve system or spinal cord injury, along with other tissue and organ injuries leading to death. Pleural membranes around the lungs may lead to diminished lungs. Individuals with a rare anatomical variation known as the sternal foramen are in danger of lung or heart puncture.

There have been some reports of needles being left after the treatment. The report published in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization outlined the acupuncture associated adverse consequences in Chinese language studies.

Acupuncture might not be right for individuals with certain health conditions. The possibility of bleeding or bruising increases whether you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners, like warfarin.

Acupuncture should not be utilized in place of care. Preventing or delaying regular care might have severe consequences.
